Good question, it really has to do with body lean. Guys 5’10″ and smaller tend to have lower pad levels (obviously) and take less punishment and go down harder. The first thing I do when I’m evaluating rookie RBs is look at how close they are to those measurements. Then I look at other skills. It’s not that I won’t take a guy far away from those, but the closer the better more times than not.
